We have five medium secure male wards - Danson, Burgess, Crofton, Birchwood and our recently opened Kelsey ward.

We have four male wards at the Bracton Centre, admitting patients from all over the country.

Danson - An 18 bed unit within a medium secure setting which provides a rehabilitation service for male patients with longer term needs.

Burgess - A 16 bed unit within a medium secure setting for assessment and treatment of male patients.

Crofton - A 16 bed unit within a medium secure setting for assessment and treatment of male patients.

Birchwood - Birchwood is a twelve bed unit for men which provides an active and intensive programme of rehabilitation, ideally completed within 12 months. Birchwood operates on the principles of the recovery model of 'self management' and aims to engender in the patients, stable and supportive patterns of community involvement. Alongside this, taking responsibility for managing their own risk is seen as a primary goal.

The staff is split evenly between a nursing and a therapeutic complement supported by MDT professionals.

Kelsey - A 4 bed ward for challenge patients requiring close care.

Our wards provide assessment and treatment in a multi disciplinary setting, with a strong focus on occupational therapies. We encourage our patients to take part in activities to build on their life skills as well as engaging in therapeutic groups.

Out of area patients -  will be considered for admission, please contact Lawrence Newsome or Jenny Hellman for urgent enquires. Alternatively visit our 'Make a referral' section.
